Culture and language programs are abundant in Mexico, but not everyone caters to the specific audience of retirees in the state of Arizona. If you are a resident of the city of Yuma, then this program might be the one that you would like to have.
The destination is the colonial city of Cuernavaca, where John Prevost, a community college professor based in Casa Grande, started the language and culture program. In the colonial city, you will find the Universal Center for Language and Social Communication, which teaches Spanish in its cultural context. Aside from the language lessons, there are also lessons for dance, history, and cooking, among others.
The Center's "Taste of Mexico" program is specifically targetted for retirees living in Yuma and the surrounding areas.
The city of Cuernavaca is the capital and the largest city of the state of Morelos. It is located around 53 miles south of Mexico City and has been dubbed to be the "City of Eternal Spring" because of its warm climate and abundant vegetation that foreigners have come to love.
The city was also once given to conquestador Hernando Cortez for his success in conquering the Aztecs back in the days of the Spanish Empire. His palace, which stands up to this day, remains to be among the city's top attractions aside from the archaeological sites, cathedrals, and museums that dot the colonial city.
If you're interested, the trips' schedule for this year will be sometime in February and in March. The travelers usually meet in Phoenix and travel together to Mexico.Once there, you will already get daily language instruction, culture classes, and guided tours. There's an on-staff historian that will guie you throughout your stay. As for accommodation, you can check in the nearby hotels, although it is recommended that you stay with local families approved by the Center. This will allow you to immerse yourself further in Mexican culture and tradition.
