La Manzanilla (dot) info Interview

By Interviewer at 10/18/09 08:05

Name of your website?

La Manzanilla (dot) info

Your name?

Daniel Hallas

Your Location (city, etc)

La Manzanilla, Jalisco Mexico

Please give us a short summary of your website?

La Manzanilla is a small fishing village on the Pacific coast of Mexico, one hour north of Manzanillo and three hours south of Puerto Vallarta in the state of Jalisco in an area called Costa Alegre, which means Happy Coast. The neighboring towns around La Manzanilla are Cihuatlan, Melaque, Barra de Navidad, Isla Navidad, Tenacatita, Boca de Iguanas, Los Ingenios, Emiliano Zapata, Rebalsito, Careyes, El Tecuan, and Tamarindo. Please see below the links for more information.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

To provide information about La Manzanilla and to assist people in finding vacation rentals and all that goes with staying in La Manzanilla.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

The website was launched in 2001, the first website about La Manzanilla.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

It was the name of the town.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

The website has information that goes back several years which allows people to see how the town was back in those day's. It also has the most vacation rental listings for better selection at a very low cost per year to the vacation rentals who list here, one fith of what others charge.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

There is not much income from the site as the charges are so low. It's mostly just for the people of La Manzailla and those who wish to come here.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

La Manzanilla.info is the highest ranking site on the search engines. The only success would be for the people who use the site.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Not much, it's a simple site and people like that.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

I never knew that those who do web sites for profit would be so agressive in their marketing. For some it's all about money.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Moderating the message board which is linked to the site.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Search engines, they seem to like the simplicity of the HTML which is all coded by hand.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

Not much, been doing it for years now.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Since 2001, I see no reason not to keep it up, it's fun in a way.

How do you keep up with all the changes that the Internet is under going?

It's hard, even on social news sites people have figured way's to game the system which is frustrating and makes one wonder where it's all headed.

What is your website address?
