Mexico Cooks! Interview

By Interviewer at 10/21/09 08:05

Mexico, any: Making Tortillas the old-fashioned way. Name of your website?

Mexico Cooks!

Your name?

Cristina Potters

Your Location (city, etc)

Morelia, Michoacan

Please give us a short summary of your website?

A culinary travelogue; an adventure for the palate, mind, and spirit.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

The wealth of information about Mexico that's NOT available on the web.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

February 2007, Mexico Cooks!

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I wanted a play on words that would reflect both culinary interests and the excitement of Mexico.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

Nearly thirty years of personal experience and knowledge of Mexico, native-level fluency in Spanish and English, willingness to go off the beaten track, culinary skills, photographic skills.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

Book.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Success has been beyond my expectations.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Headaches: recent 'upgrades' from the web host.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Reliability and consistency. Putting it out there--asking for links--in 'cold calls' via email to bloggers and web-writers with similar interests.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Site has been up since February 2007. Traffic is steady, interest is steady, I expect to keep it up indefinitely.

What is your website address?

Mexico Cooks!
