If you're from South California, chances are you'll gladly cross the border once in a while--especially during holiday weekends--to get some beach fun at the other side of the Mexico-US border. When embarking on these kinds of trips, it is not usual to prepare much because you're still practically near the United States. There are a number of beach towns in Mexico that have developed for this specific purpose.
Such is the case for the Playas de Rosarito, a city in the Mexican state of Baja California. Just to indicate its proximity to the border with the US, you can actually travel to it from the US border in just 35 minutes. That's short enough distance for people who are looking for some quick beach weekend. Unsurprisingly, it is particularly popular among young Americans.
What used to be a sandy isolated location near the border has already developed into a monster of a tourist destination. It used to be a favorite Hollywood taping destination but today, condos, hotels, and restaurants are seen to be starting their growth already. Despite this, it remains relatively more peaceful that some of its counterparts such as Acapulco and Cancun.
For film enthusiasts, a couple of movie scenes have been shot here, as I have mentioned above. Fox Studios Baja was one of those studios created for this purpose. It's actually the place where a number of scenes from the hit movie Titanic were shot. So if you feel like imitating Jack and Rose, then come over here to reliev their memories. Other famous movies shot here were Pearl Harbor, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, and Jackass. It's going to be one cinematic tour for you once you set foot here.
Another popular destination in this town is the Rosarito Beach Hotel (then called Hotel Rosarito), which was built in the 1920s and eventually became a pioneer of the tourism industry in this city.
For a short weekend getaway, a trip to Playas de Rosarito should be good enough already. There's enough activity here to keep an adventurous soul busy.
